A fact of life is moving forward.
There is no going back
and no standing still.
Tradition and traditions are EXCELLENT practices for our health and growth.
They connect us with people, creating a sense of community and belonging.
They connect us with the past, reminding us we are a part of something bigger than our individual life.
They give us a home base to come back to when all else seems unstable.
They teach us who we are, what’s important, and what mistakes to look out for along the way.
Many of us, especially those under the age of 50, are greatly lacking in traditions. Whether due to betrayal of the systems and people we trusted or our increasingly digital world that makes us more disconnected than ever,
we are missing our sense of belonging and place in the world around us.
We NEED traditions.
However, this is far too often conflated with “Traditionalism” which is not the same thing at all.
Traditionalism is one way our pyche’s try to hold on to what is familiar so we feel safe and in control. It is the ego trying to prove itself right by rejecting all that is new, different, or challenging to the familiar.
Do not mistake tradition for traditionalism.
One will serve you greatly, the other will only serve itself at the expense of you and everyone around you.
